Antisense RNA for NAB1

NAB1 is an RNA-binding protein that is specific to the light harvesting antenna found in light harvesting complexes in microalgae [1,2]. This antisense sequence was created in order to silence NAB1 activity in the cell. This construct acts as a RNA interference tool and will decrease NAB1 expression. This will allow for larger light antenna allowing for less light needs for sufficient algal growth. With this part there is the potential of this being used as a bio-safety tool as well. High light conditions when the antisense construct is implemented can cause photo bleaching of the cells and can therefore kill them when outside a low lit, laboratory environment. Our control construct is https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K3237024 NAB1] which when over-expressed, requires more light [2,3].
